Hi there! My name is Jessica Ruano (she/her), and I write, perform, teach, collaborate, advocate, and make art in many forms. I have a Master of Arts in Theatre and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Ottawa.
Over the past 20 years, I have worked extensively as a writer, theatre artist, event coordinator, and educator with numerous theatre companies, arts organizations, artists, local businesses, and festivals in Ottawa, Canada and London, United Kingdom.
Currently, I’m working on publishing my debut memoir, a queer love story, and writing a second memoir about my journey to adopt as a solo parent. You can read about these subjects (and more) on my blog.
I’m also taking psychology courses at the University of Ottawa, with the with the eventual aim of qualifying as a registered psychotherapist (RP). In the meantime, I offer sliding-scale counselling.
When I’m not writing or studying, I life model for artists and art classes because it’s great for my mental health and gets me away from my computer once in a while.
I am grateful to be living on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation with my daughter Joy.
