Training and Counselling Experience

I first started volunteering as a counsellor at the Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) of Ottawa in 2016, after completing their 10-week anti-oppression-based training. I completed SASC’s training again in 2024, and I offer onsite individual counselling, as well as facilitate art therapy workshops for women, members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and their families.

In 2024, I participated in a 10-week course titled ‘Building Resilience After Trauma’ with Family Services Ottawa, as well as a 4-week art and movement therapy workshop with the Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre.

In 2025, I completed volunteer training with Bereaved Families of Ontario, and I facilitate group sessions for people grieving the death of someone close to them.

I am working towards a Major in Psychology at the University of Ottawa with the eventual aim of qualifying as a registered psychotherapist (RP). I have taken courses in Women and Gender, Human Sexuality, Death and Dying, Child Development, Social Psychology, Social Movements, Social Innovation and Community Engagement, Personality Theories, Psychopathology, and Community Psychology.

Lived experience

I was born and raised on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation in Ottawa, and I have lived here for most of my life, aside from four years in London, England.

I have a BA in English and an MA in Theatre from the University of Ottawa, and I have worked in the arts for 20 years.

I am a solo parent to my adopted Inuk child. We maintain strong connections with the local Inuit community.

I am a queer woman who has dated people across the gender spectrum. I have experience with various relationship structures, including polyamory.

I live with anxiety and have employed a variety of practices, including medication, to manage symptoms.

I was evicted from my home in 2021, and I have worked with local organizations to raise awareness about safe and affordable housing.

I am a survivor of suicide loss: my girlfriend died by suicide in 2022, and I lost a family member to suicide months later. I have written about the impacts of suicide for the Mental Health Commission of Canada and United Way East Ontario.

As a survivor of gender-based violence, I believe that education and open dialogue are key to prevention. I wrote and directed The Ghomeshi Effect, a documentary dance-theatre production on sexual violence and the legal system in Canada, for which I was awarded the 2017 International Women’s Day ‘Femmy’ Award for Media.
